Ladies, do you have a go-to cosmetics item that automatically puts some pep in your step? For me, it’s lipstick.

I’ve never really been very much into makeup. To be honest, I’ve never felt I was very good at applying it. As a teen, many of my friends experimented with bold colours of nail polish, eyeshadow or lip gloss, but I was the plain Jane always opting for an au naturel look. So much so that when I attended my prom fully made up I had classmates and teachers who didn’t recognize me.

As I’ve gotten older I have become more interested in wearing makeup, though mostly when I’m going out for a special occasion, girls night or a date with hubby. When I was working full time at an office, my makeup regimen usually consisted of a bit of eyeshadow, mascara, and lipstick. My goal was five minutes and done. Yet, no matter where I’m going, if I’m in the mood to brighten my face a bit and I only have time to apply one thing my go-to is always lipstick. There’s something about wearing it that makes me feel youthful and pretty. I also feel like it’s a great way to complete a look.

If there’s one thing I’ve learned it’s that finding a good lipstick can take some trial and error. For me, I’ve struggled with finding the right shade and finding one that won’t dry out my lips. I know many would say that long-lasting is very important, and I agree, but my main struggle has been with finding a lip colour that compliments me and keeps my lips kissably soft. After trying different brands I’ve finally found the one that has the lipstick I’ve been searching for: Burt’s Bees. Their satin lipstick feels so soft when applied and I love the richness of their Lily Lake shade. Not too dark against my complexion yet adds a nice pop of colour. Just the pick-me-up this mama needs when she’s heading out the door.
